THE SCIENCE BEHIND CBD
How CBD Oil works with our body and the role of botanical extracts and terpenes
How our mind & body work

What is the Endocannabinoid System?
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is one of the most extensive and complex systems of neurotransmitters in our bodies. This network of receptors are found throughout our body throughout the immune and central nervous systems, and plays a critical role in keeping other systems in our body balanced and working smoothly.
What is an Endocannabinoid?
Endocannabinoids are found throughout the body, in the brain, organs, connective tissues, circulatory system, endocrine system, heart and other tissues. Created by cells whenever and wherever they are needed within our bodies, they play a key role as messenger, or feedback mechanism between biological systems so they can work harmoniously to maintain a balance and stability that the body requires to stay healthy. Endocannabinoids become especially critical in maintaining our internal balance as our body experiences external aggressors or system-agitating conditions such as disease, injury, pain and stress. That’s why Endocannabinoids, and our body’s ability to create them, is crucial to our general well-being — both emotional and physical.

GOING BEYOND CBD OIL
Role of Phytocannabinoids, Terpenes and Botanical Extracts
Terpenes are the aromatic elements of plant-based essential oils and can be found in all vegetables, fruits, and spices. They are recognized by the FDA as safe food additives and like cannabinoids, terpenes can interact with a variety of receptors in our body, not just those in the ECS.
Terpenes are pharmacologically active and work harmoniously with the cannabinoids of the cannabis plant when ingested. In fact, it is believed that the terpenes play an integral part in determining how the plant’s cannabinoids interact with our ECS. The mechanism by which terpenes interact with and alter the effects of cannabinoids is not yet well understood however, extensive research around the world on the subject are already underway.
The overall effect of a medical cannabis product is the result of the relationship between the cannabinoids and terpenes drawn from specific botanical plants and flowers, and their concentrations relative to each other. This combined effect is the Entourage Effect.
